  • Purpose (what problem your project is solving for your target users)
    • A journal writing iOS application to help fight anxiety caused by PTSD or other high-stress situations that currently afflict our war-fighters in the field or our veterans at home, when our veterans or war-fighters are diagnosed with PTSD by the VA, it may take them awhile to get into the system and see a doctor. This delay can heighten the anxiety that our soldiers and veterans have and make them more susceptible to anxiety, depression, or even suicide.
  • Target audience (description, profiles, personas)
    • Active duty military & veterans
  • Target display platform, input devices
    • Android and iOS smartphones and tablets
  • Unique Positioning Statement (what is innovative and unique about your project relative to all of your competitors)
    • My product is geared towards the soldier, who suffers from depression, and PTSD.


  • Competitive Analysis
  • User Requirements analysis (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups)


  • All sites, books, paintings, and literature that you used to base or inspire your project purpose, theme, visual design, etc
  • Moldboards, collages

Concept and Design

  • Common usage scenarios (use cases for all usage paths through your project user experience)
  • Content inventory: An organized database of content you will be using in your project. This includes copy, images, illustrations, etc. If there is content that is planned for but missing, have a plan in place for where you intend to find it
  • Information Architecture: This is the structure of your user experience that reflects how all of your content will be organized and accessed. The hierarchy diagram may need to include task flows for more complex user interfaces
  • Wireframes: A stripped-down version of each page or interaction element without visual treatment applied. This focuses just on information and basic layout structure
  • Navigation mechanism design (e.g., main menus, sub-navigation, input device)
  • Interaction Design (for each use case or view type)
    • Access point
    • Display components
    • User inputs and system outputs
  • Information graphics
    • Description
    • Data sources
  • Visual design (color palette, typefaces, styling, logos, graphic treatments)
  • Interactive behavior for all use cases
